G.A., Armond, Mack, and Shawn make up Nephew, an R&B group heating up the bed sheets in Atlanta. What is Nephu, 100% real R&B music? So where did they get the name Nephu you may be asking? According to Shawn, “we used to sing outside…. you know how you be in the neighborhood. and people hear voices and voices attract people. You see them opening up there screen doors so after a while they like ‘Ooooooh I like them cats right there. The doing something positive, they not out here on the block. So if we walk by we was like Hey Ms. such and such and Mr. Such and such and they would say ‘What’s going on nephew?, them my nephews right there so we just took it and stuck with it.”
Despite their name and humble demeanor these singers are ready to let it be known that they can run with the best. “Basically what we into is making good quality music and music that everybody can relate to, I guarantee you going to like this album“ says Shawn. Signed to Atlantic records the group is prepping there debut album and getting ready to hit the road to spread the word. Seeing themselves as a Catalog group they expect to be around for five or six albums with ease. The group got most of its influence from G.A.‘s parents who were apart of the Platters. They see them as a major influence in their lives to pursue music by any and all means. Having such an intimate knowledge of the music industry allowed the group gain valuable experience.
The members of Nephew all group up together with the exception of Armond. G.A., and Shawn had got together and began to work on some stuff as early as middle school. GA was also in touch with Mac who was winning talent shows all over Atlanta. After they all meet they decide to join forces. After six years of hard work they added Armond and the chemistry was outrageous. Once they figured out who could do what they immediately began crafting material that showcased each members strongest qualities as each man is capable of being the lead. GA says, “We going to take our turns and give you a different style because of the versatility of us four.” Promising not to disappoint, Nephew will bring out the dance moves to add even more fuel to their collective fire.
Promising to deliver a top notch show, they have worked hard at developing the proper image to get the publics attention. From club hits, to smooth ballads, they work around the clock to be better artists. Each member is just as capable as the next which helps especially when it comes time to write a song or produce the beats they need. Every member of nephew can craft the next hit with no problem so the burden of being creative falls on all of their shoulders instead of one. Their debut album is called On the Edge. The choose he title because they feel that they have been so close o the edge of everything in their lives from their careers, to relationships. Digging deeper we find that it also means that they are standing apart from everything else you can find in R&B music.
